Tenured/Tenure-Track PER Position - Texas State University, San Marcos

The Department of Physics at Texas State University-San Marcos invites applications for a tenure-track position in Physics at either the assistant or associate professor level from qualified candidates from all Physics disciplines, theoretical or experimental, with a starting date of Fall 2011. While all outstanding applications will be seriously considered, applicants with demonstrated expertise in biophysics or physics education research are particularly encouraged to apply. Level, salary and start-up will be commensurate with qualifications.

The Department of Physics has a strong emphasis on materials research and the education of students at the undergraduate and graduate level. Texas State University is aggressively developing a new Materials Science, Engineering, and Commercialization program with significant federal, state and university funding based on collaborations between the Departments of Physics, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Biology, Engineering Technology, and the Ingram School of Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an outstanding, externally-funded research program and support collaborative research within the Department, College, and with external academic and industrial partners. A successful candidate will also be expected to teach at all levels, mentor students, and to support departmental efforts involving innovative teaching and the integration of teaching and research. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in physics or closely-related field (e.g. materials science, electrical engineering, etc.) and a strong record of scholarly activity that may include publications, patents, or funded research programs and/or extensive research or development experience in industry. For appointment at the Associate Professor rank the applicant must meet the departmental and university requirements for Associate Professor at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Preference will be given to candidates who strengthen and/or complement current departmental research interests or add strength in biophysics or physics education research. A documented record of successful teaching at university level (undergraduate or graduate) is preferred.
