This book by veteran high school teacher Larry Ferlazzo summarizes research and strategies for helping students become self-motivated about school and learning. In his previous books on motivation, Helping Students Motivate Themselves and Self-Driven Learning, Ferlazzo tackled ways to promote intrinsic motivation in students through classroom time utilization, exercises to foster positivity about the learning process, and strategies to prevent burnout. In this book, he looks at how teachers can create classroom conditions that provide the environment for motivation to flourish. The book points to research-based suggestions on what teachers can do today to help students develop qualities such as grit, mental and physical health, and how to transfer their learning to environments outside school. Each chapter is accompanied by lesson plans aligned to the Common Core ELA/Literacy Standards.
