This 2012 book discusses the benefits of cooperative learning methods from the perspective of ten different academic disciplines: accounting, chemistry, mathematics, psychology, engineering education, statistics, biology, literature, economics, and geological sciences. Each chapter is authored by an expert in a particular discipline, who argues the merits of using cooperative learning as a key instructional method in higher education. The compilation was assembled and edited by Barbara Millis, director of the Teaching and Learning Center of the University of Texas-San Antonio, who asserts that "cooperative learning offers a systematic, learning-centered approach without putting anyone into a pedagogical strait jacket". She also argues for using highly structured practices to ensure high-quality group work in which all students are held to a high bar of responsibility.
