The philosophy of science and its relation to Piagetian educational psychology are briefly discussed. A research project designed to measure the verbal and cognitive skills of students is reported. Students were classified in terms of formal and nonformal thinking, and of technical and nontechnical vocabulary. The implications of these findings in terms of educational methods, for students showing different combinations of these variables, are discussed.
