written by Lillian C. McDermott and the University of Washington Physics Education Group
This book is the first volume in a two-volume set of laboratory-based modules in which the  emphasis is on the development of concepts and scientific reasoning skills. Students work collaboratively in small groups, conduct investigations with simple equipment, and use their observations as a basis for constructing scientific models. These instructional materials are especially appropriate for preparing prospective and practicing teachers to teach physics and physical science at the pre-college level. Modules feature narrative, experiments, problems, and exercises on properties of matter, heat, light, magnets, and astronomy.
