| Abstract Title: | Active Learning of Physics by Modeling |
|---|---|
| Abstract: | Models are important elements to explain scientific ideas. Physics makes explanations about nature with different type of models. In educational context, "Modeling" is an instructional methodology which students being physically and mentally "active". Modeling cycle aims students' construction of mathematical model(s) of a given physical situation by analyzing, discussing, exploring and experimenting with cooperative learning groups. Including different type of active learning activities makes modeling is an effective instructional methodology in learning of physics at different levels- high school and university levels (Wells, Hestenes, & Swackhamer, 1995). This study explains a model of modeling cycle for a physics concept in terms of active learning elements. The roles of students and teacher in a lesson are mentioned in detail. Richness of this methodology with active learning elements provides teachers and instructors active and effective learning environments. |
