Abstract Title: Analysis of Former Learning Assistants’ Views on Teaching and Learning
Abstract: We are currently working to categorize middle and high school teachers' views on students, knowledge construction, group interactions, and assessment.  This poster will compare the views of teachers who were formerly involved in the Learning Assistant (LA) program to a similar group of teachers who did not participate in this program.  This analysis will allow us to reflect on the effects that this program has had on its graduates' teaching. The LA Program is intended to recruit promising science and math majors to become secondary science and math teachers.  LAs are hired to assist in science and math courses at the university and are required to take an education seminar focused on teaching methods. Previous work has already shown that the LA program has improved the learning of students in the introductory science and math courses and has increased the number of science and math majors earning teacher certifications.
