Abstract Title: | Students’ scientific practices in Advanced Lab |
---|---|
Abstract: | As part of an ongoing study into upper-level physics students' identity development, we present a case study of a group of three students working in a traditional junior-level Advanced Lab course. The data collected for this analysis include video-based observations of students working together in the lab, working in different groups in a prior Modern Physics lab course, and individual interviews with each student. We identify authentic scientific practices that students enact in the lab and use discourse-analytic techniques to compare their actual practices with their expectations for appropriate lab and scientific practices. |
