Abstract Title: Race and Gender and Leaving STEM: Preliminary Results of The Roots of STEM Project
Abstract: The Roots of STEM project combines an extensive quantitative data set for one cohort of students, Grade 7 – college graduation (n=30,000), with interviews of college seniors (n=300) around their experiences in majoring, not majoring or leaving a STEM major. The guiding research questions of this project focus on the relationship of majoring in STEM with gender and race.  This poster shares findings of the project related to students who started, but left a major in STEM that was not biology or a health related science.
