Abstract Title: | Research as a Component of Physics Teacher Preparation and Professional Development |
---|---|
Abstract: | Numerous programs provide research experiences for pre-service and in-service teachers as a component of teacher preparation and professional development, respectively. These programs provide the opportunity to investigate the impacts of interventions on both teacher-researcher participants and their K-12 students. We will describe the Collaborative Around Research Experiences for Teachers (CARET) supported by the APLU Science and Mathematics Teaching Imperative and 100Kin10 to link teacher researcher programs across the nation to develop shared measures to characterize some of these impacts (http://teachersinindustry.arizona.edu/100kin10). We will also present the development of a longitudinal tracking system by the California State University STEM Teacher and Researcher Program (STAR) to investigate impacts of summer research experiences for pre-service teachers on teacher induction and retention, classroom practices, teacher leadership, and networking (www.StarTeacherResearcher.org). |
