Abstract Title: Assessment with purpose: Evaluation of the New Faculty Workshop experience
Abstract: Providing effective faculty workshops on the implementation of PER instructional methods is challenging.  If we are to provide excellent educational experiences for the professoriate, we need meaningful, rigorous evaluation of these professional development experiences.  Evaluation is not research, with distinct purposes and audiences.  In this poster, I highlight the evaluation of the AAPT Workshop for New Physics and Astronomy Faculty as a "case study" in workshop evaluation methodology. I will focus on the purpose of the evaluation for multiple audiences – both as  "voice" and advocate for workshop participants, and a "critical friend" for the workshop organizers.  What are the intended workshop outcomes, how are those outcomes assessed, and how is data synthesized and communicated to the workshop organizers in a way that is both digestible and meaningful? The poster should be of interest to evaluators and implementers of professional development programs, as well as researchers in DBER.
