Abstract Title: | Examining Student Participation in Collaborative Exams through Video Analysis |
---|---|
Abstract: | A two-stage collaborative exam is one in which students first complete the exam individually, and then complete a same or similar exam in collaborative groups immediately afterward. One possible marker of an effective group is one in which all members have a high level of participation in the group interactions that lead to the group coming to agreement on their answer for a given question. We analyzed the video of 27 different groups from two different introductory Physics courses and scored each group member's level of participation for each question according to a participation rubric. We will report on participation trends based on factors such as the mix of ability levels in the groups and the number of people that answered a given question correctly on their individual exams. |
