Abstract Title: Comparing Students performance in QM between China and US
Abstract: Chinese students have shown outstanding performances in many introductory level STEM assessments. Previous research has revealed that Chinese students outweigh American students in both FCI and BEMA. In our research, we used the Quantum Mechanics Survey (QMS) to probe students' understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles in quantum mechanics. We administered the QMS to over 400 undergraduate students enrolled in entry-level quantum mechanics courses from 5 Chinese universities and 5 American universities. The results showed that the American students from our study achieved a higher average score than the Chinese students. These American students also had a wider distribution of the QMS scores compared to their Chinese peers.
