Abstract Title: | Learning physics on YouTube: what is available for students? |

Abstract: | YouTube is one of the most popular websites in the world and is accessed by viewers searching for a variety of topics. Video tutorials available on the website can teach about subjects that range from computer formatting to Thermodynamics. Observing this alternative source of knowledge, this study aimed to explore the platform to create a profile of physics video lessons available for its viewers. We chose three different physics topics to start the search. The final sample consists of 30 videos that were labeled "instructional" due to the presence of theory explanation, and/or equation demonstration, and/or problem solving. The categories that emerged during the analysis served as a basis for descriptions of the videos, which suggest, among other results, that most of the instructors are men, scientific errors are rarely found, and most of the lessons are presented through an animation narrated by the instructor's voice. |
