Abstract Title: ECLASS As Part of Program Assessment
Abstract: Based on the success of using ECLASS (Colorado Learning Attitudes about Science Survey - Experimental Physics) to assess sophomore lab attitudes, a longitudinal study was initiated at Appalachian State University.  ECLASS was administered in all required lab courses for the physics major program of study.  ECLASS results for the capstone course support separate departmental program assessment pertaining to student disconnect between physics content and the laboratory experience.  This disconnect begins in introductory labs and may be exacerbated by traditional class instruction, as indicated by a recent 5-year comprehensive review. Evidence for the disconnect, and other program issues, will be presented, along with recommendations for building connections between physics content in laboratory settings.
