Abstract Title: | PD of Physics Teacher-Leaders in a Program of Regional PLCs |
---|---|
Abstract: | Teacher-leaders play a major role in teachers' Professional Development (PD) and in the development of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). However, little is known about the PD of the teachers-leaders themselves. We studied the PD of high-school physics teacher-leaders in a national PLCs program. The teacher-leaders' PLC was led by a team from the Weizmann Institute of Science, while the teacher-leaders simultaneously led regional PLCs of physics teachers. In order to characterize the teacher-leaders' PD we developed a theoretical framework: Physics Knowledge for Teaching and Leading (PKTL). Our framework is based on the frameworks of Knowledge Integration (Linn & Eylon, 2011) and MKT (Ball, Thames & Phelps, 2008). The results show the teacher-leaders' long-term PD in several aspects: their physics knowledge, their knowledge about teacher learning, dissemination of learner-centered practices, and more. Elaborated examples will be presented and implications for PD of teachers and teacher-leaders will be discussed. |
