| Abstract Title: | EPO-EKO – Learning Electricity in Middle Schools |
|---|---|
| Abstract: | To enhance physics education in middle schools, a large design-based research project is undertaken by four PER groups in Germany and Austria. We focus on the electricity curriculum and try to change two aspects: On the one hand, a new teaching concept based on the electron-gas model is used. The content structure of this concept has proven to be very effective in improving students' understanding of electricity. On the other hand, contexts of electricity, such as electric fish, are implemented into the teaching materials. In a 2x2-design with pre-, post- and follow-up-test, we investigate the effects of these two approaches on students' learning outcomes. The poster will illustrate the theoretical framework of the study as well as the key ideas of the interventions. |
