| Abstract Title: | Physics students’ perceptions about seven aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship |

| Abstract: | To prepare physics majors for a range of careers, we need to provide them opportunities to learn aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) and how these connect with physics. Yet students have different perceptions of physics, and consequently, ideas about the role of I&E in physics. To identify students' perspectives on aspects of I&E (e.g., design, technology, social impact), we designed a national survey. Initial findings from 40 students show they value I&E in physics, yet tend to learn aspects outside of their physics classes with labs being the richest place within the curriculum. Students perceive technology as mostly software, not inclusive of the range needed for physics. Alternatively, students had little awareness of social impacts for doing physics to improve their world and address social needs, except as a reflective assessment of physics gone awry (e.g., bridges failing, atomic bombs). |
