| Abstract Title: | Exploring Students’ Enactment of Data Analysis Practices in Interdisciplinary IPLS Laboratory Courses |

| Abstract: | Although significant prior work has examined student perceptions and attitudes in IPLS lectures and labs, minimal research has examined the learning of scientific practices in these settings, despite the doing of science being a common learning objective. In the context of implementing newly-reformed interdisciplinary IPLS labs, we examine IPLS students engaging in the practice of data analysis. Video and audio data of students engaged in these labs suggests that they participate in a multifaceted data analysis process that incorporates data collection, cleaning, manipulation, mathematization, interpretation, and communication. Furthermore, we found that students engage in discourse with group members and instructors, utilize other scientific practices, and employ technological skills and knowledge resources from the course. Building an initial understanding of the process of data analysis in this setting is important for future work aiming to develop subsequent tools and methods for investigation the process of data analysis. |
