Abstract Title: | Faculty as Learners and Educators: Interactions between Community of Practice, Individual Experience and Teaching Philosophy |
---|---|
Abstract: | Physics faculty are not only educators, but they are also learners of their craft within their unique community of practice. As constant learners, faculty draw on both their prior experiences as teachers and students and on their current available resources within their environment to inform their teaching methods and philosophy. Using interview data of physics faculty at diverse institutions, this project presents a phenomenological case study that explores how one physics instructor identifies themselves within their given environment as they develop as learners and educators within their profession. This research project explores the results of a preliminary analysis that focused on how an instructor's teaching philosophy and their approach to change is moderated by their community of practice and their prior experiences. |
