Abstract Title: | Feedback Requested: Understanding and Humanizing the Journal Review Process |
---|---|
Abstract: | Informal conversations in the Physics Education Research (PER) Community raised concerns that sometimes the journal review process might be unnecessarily harsh. This caused the authors of this poster to seek feedback from the larger PER community via a survey. Responses to the survey confirmed that many authors have received reviews that could be described as insulting or dehumanizing. The information provided by the respondents led us to consider the role of reviews in the publication process specifically and in the research community more broadly. We are calling upon the PER community to carefully consider the balance between the role of ensuring that high quality work be published and the role of providing constructive feedback to authors to help them attain that high quality. To that end, we have drafted a set of review writing recommendations. In this poster, we share this draft and ask for your feedback. |
