Abstract Title: The physics motivation of life science and engineering majors
Abstract: The five-factor component physics motivation questionnaire by Glynn (2011) was used to examine the motivation of life science and engineering majors. Our preliminary results revealed that engineering majors have significantly higher intrinsic and career motivation as compared to the life sciences majors.  There was no significant difference, however, on the other three factors: self-efficacy, self-determination, and grade motivation between engineering and life sciences majors. Furthermore, our results revealed that the number one factor in their motivational level is grade motivation. In this presentation, we will document the data analysis conducted and the implications of the results.
