Abstract Title: | A Team-planning and Assessment Protocol to Guide Student Group Projects |
---|---|
Abstract: | Group project assignments can be a useful and engaging pedagogy. Nevertheless, group work can be challenging for first year students. As part of the syllabus for a medical physics class, students were assigned to groups and asked to make a 30-minute case study presentation. To help each group successfully navigate the group learning process a team plan protocol was provided. The protocol contains 3 sections; 1) a guideline for ways in which to schedule, coordinate, and successfully execute group meetings outside the regularly scheduled class time, as well suggestions for monitoring progress, 2) a self-assessment feedback questionnaire designed to help students individually reflect and report on the group experience, and 3) a survey designed to help students assess and report on the group experience by assessing their peers. To assess the outcome of the group learning experience, the protocol and a summary of student responses is presented in this poster. |
