Abstract Title: A Rubric for Assessing Thinking Processes in Free-Response Exam Problems
Abstract: We have developed a rubric to assess free-response exam problems in order to compare thinking processes evidenced in exams in classes taught by different pedagogies. The rubric is designed based on Bloom's taxonomy. We present the rubric and the results of analysis of students taught introductory algebra-based physics by three different pedagogies: Socratic questioning in an inquiry-based, laboratory-based course, interactive-engagement in a large lecture course and traditional lecture format. We discuss the instrument, present results and present plans for future research.
