Abstract Title: | Developing a Methodology for Determining the Landscape of Informal Physics Programs |
---|---|
Abstract: | While there are many informal physics education and physics outreach programs across the country, available information about these programs varies widely and can be difficult to find. Without this information, it is difficult for individual efforts to be understood as part of a national landscape of informal physics. In this poster, we describe the development of a methodology to map this broader landscape. We seek to determine the best ways to collect meaningful and comprehensive data from the diverse formats of informal physics programs facilitated by academic institutions. We obtained data from web searches for programs, surveys and interviews of program facilitators, and site visits of program events. This data was analyzed with participants' feedback to produce iterations of the survey and interview. We report on challenges and outcomes from our attempts to collect information about programs as a test case for the landscape of informal programs across the country. |
