Abstract Title: | Analysis of the evolution and results of Physics Teacher Professional Development projects for Preschool |
---|---|
Abstract: | The national preschool curriculum in Mexico considers 80 hours for learning science during the school year. Early child science education is important for developing skills and positive attitudes toward science. However, for the instruction to be successful, it is necessary that teachers have adequate knowledge of science and science didactic. In the case of Mexico, teacher preparation is insufficient. There are few professional development courses for in-service and pre-service teachers. This work presents the results and analysis of the evolution of different preschool teacher professional development activities (TPD) carried out from 2012 until today by the Department of Physics Education of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico, through research projects, curriculum design, experiment manuals, postgrad thesis, and workshops. The results show that preschool teachers have a good background in didactic and kids' learning, and the support that they need is for scientific content during the TPDs. |
