Abstract Title: | Practices in an online computational class of high school teachers |
---|---|
Abstract: | As part of a new online Master in Physics with Teaching Emphasis (MPTE) program for in-service high school physics teachers a course on computational waves was developed due to high school teachers' request. The course is nine-week long and was launched in Summer 2020. We use the theory of community of practice to describe participation in the online problem solving discussion boards. We use a qualitative method to categorize the discussion posts around emergent discussion themes. To better understand the role of new context in engaging members in authentic practices of learning and integration of computational physics into high school classrooms, we compare the themes in the computational waves course to the previously identified themes in the classical mechanics course. |
