Abstract Title: Study Strategies in the Transition from High School to College
Abstract Type: Contributed Poster Presentation
Abstract: In this poster presentation, we will share what we have learned about the study habits and support structures used by students enrolled in high school and college physics courses, as well as how those habits and supports change in the transition from high school to college. Data has been collected from two complementary sources: semi-structured interviews with five high school seniors planning to attend college for engineering and written survey responses from 87 students enrolled in introductory mechanics for physics and engineering majors at a large, public research university. Understanding existing student habits and resource use can help high school and college instructors alike to advise students for effective study outside of class.
