Abstract Title: Initiating PER Collaborations with Two-Year Colleges
Abstract Type: Community Connection
Abstract: Within the physics education research (PER) community, interest in physics students at two-year colleges has increased dramatically in 2020. Kanim & Cid (2020) revealed that less than 2% of PER takes place in these settings, despite half of students taking introductory physics at 2-year institutions. In this session, join us to strategize ways to establish successful and equitable collaborations between 2- and 4-year partners. Learn about some common misconceptions, share your methods & successes, and ask your questions.
Session Time: Community Connections 1

Parallel Session Information

Format Description: This session is a follow-up to the planned plenary panel discussion about two-year colleges (TYCs) and PER. We will present some findings on creating thriving partnerships, building on discussions from a Critical Conversation session at PERC23. We invite participants to share their experiences, ask questions, and brainstorm solutions collectively. We hope to foster conversations that may result in productive partnerships.
Anticipated Participants: This session invites anyone interested in doing PER with two-year colleges, whether they are researchers or teachers, are at four-year or two-year institutions, and regardless of prior experience.
