| Abstract: | To support physics students along their career pathways, it is critical that we develop a better understanding of the routes they take. This is especially important for improving retention and educational experiences for low-income students and those from marginalized groups. Evaluation tracking data provides valuable insight on students' academic and career trajectories over time and factors contributing to the paths these students take. Furthermore, evaluation tracking data can be triangulated with other education research data to identify key supports, barriers, or programmatic impacts while improving the scope and reliability of findings relating to STEM recruitment, retention, and completion. This paper focuses on over 10 years of NSF S-STEM program evaluation reports including tracking survey data starting from 148 community college students in physics and engineering. Our findings and approaches have implications for setting up long term research and evaluation studies that monitor and improve students' educational experiences and career outcomes. |
