| Abstract: | While replicating the benefits of research-based practices in a new context is notoriously difficult; large replication projects have shown that replicating those benefits is just as difficult even in the same context in which those practices were originally developed. In many diverse fields, the issue of translating research into real-world practice has been a major topic of study for many decades. Remarkably, these diverse fields have independently arrived at a common set of findings. Unfortunately, many of these powerful findings are organized in frameworks far too complex to be practically useful. We present a user-friendly synthesis of the principles, processes, and pitfalls for implementing best-practices in any context, including physics education contexts. We propose that this uniformity across contexts is due to the inherently ill-structured nature of efforts to create lasting change in existing organizations. |
