Abstract Title: | Bridging the gap: an industry perspective on quantum education |
---|---|
Abstract Type: | Plenary |
Abstract: | As the quantum industry transitions from foundational research to broader commercialization, we expect the demand for a quantum workforce to accelerate, moving the spotlight increasingly onto quantum education. PER and broader education research have been critical in shaping quantum computing education in universities and in the content from industry leaders, especially through evidence-based practices such as microlearning and backward curriculum design. Open questions remain at the heart of quantum education: What skills and knowledge are required by industry? At IBM Quantum specifically? How do we scale quantum education for non-specialists like engineers and computer scientists? How has IBM Quantum approached large-scale upskilling? In addition to clear pedagogical challenges, there are logistical challenges including access to quantum hardware, a shortage of trained educators, and the need for curricular resources that can adapt to rapidly evolving technologies. This plenary explores these questions and challenges and asks the PER community for help addressing them. |
