| Abstract Title: | Paradox-Driven AI Exploration of Advanced Quantum Misconceptions |

| Abstract Type: | Contributed Poster Presentation |
| Abstract: | As quantum hardware transitions from theoretical curiosity to practical technology, and with 2025 designated the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, subtle formal issues in quantum mechanics, such as the distinction between Hermitian and self-adjoint operators, remain largely unaddressed in standard instruction. These overlooked subtleties can have critical consequences in quantum-device design and often persist because they are not explicitly taught. We designed two paradox-framed prompts to expose and analyze two such conceptual gaps: (i) Hermitian ≠ self-adjoint in the infinite square well, and (ii) commuting operators lacking common eigenstates. We evaluated how a few large language models (LLMs), including ChatGPT and DeepSeek, respond to these prompts. Each response was rated on correctness, pedagogical clarity, and conceptual depth using a structured rubric. Results and instructional implications will be presented, including ideas for integrating paradox framing with AI feedback to support conceptual change in quantum instruction. |
