Our mission is to understand and affect student learning of physics.
Our areas of interest include:
- student understanding of specific physics concepts
- the use and understanding of mathematics in physics learning
- curriculum development and dissemination
- professional development of K-12 teachers and university instructors
- models and mechanisms of human reasoning and learning
We have multiple degree programs that support physics education research projects:
- Ph.D. and M.S. in physics, via the Department of Physics and Astronomy
- Master of Science in Teaching, via the Maine Center for Research in STEM Education
- Ph.D. in STEM Education, via the College of Education and Human Development and the Maine Center for Research in STEM Education
